Sri Lanka saves historic Test after follow‑on, Dinusha shines in Colombo

Second Test between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo ended in a draw, with India winning the series 1‑0. Sri Lanka played follow‑on for the first time and saved the match, scoring 429 for 9 in their second innings.

Batswoman Sonal Dinusha equalled the record of Kumar Sangakkara and Jacques Kallis by scoring three centuries in the two‑match series. She became the third Sri Lankan to score centuries in both innings against India, following Dilip Mendis and Aravinda de Silva.

Records and milestones

Sri Lanka saved a Test after follow‑on for the fourth time, the first such instance against India. Dinusha made 173 runs sweeping spin bowlers, the highest total in a series. Sri Lanka gained a 216‑run lead in the second innings after follow‑on, the third biggest such lead against India.

Dinusha scored 606 runs in five Tests, the second most by a Sri Lankan in the first five Tests of a career. She joined the club of seven batters with three centuries in a two‑match series and became the third Sri Lankan to score 50 or more runs in all four innings of a series.

Match moments

In the 104th over, Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery struck Sri Lankan batsman Keshara Nanayakkara on the toe, sparing him an LBW as the impact was outside the stumps. Nanayakkara left the field for treatment.

Jadeja exited the field in the 128th over due to a right‑heel injury, with his over completed by Prasidh Krishna.

Dinusha completed her third century on the first ball after tea in the 134th over, flicking a delivery from Mohammed Siraj for two runs to reach her hundred, celebrated by her mother and teammates.

India captain Shubman Gill described the draw as a victory for Test cricket, defending the decision to enforce the follow‑on.
